BJJ black belt Josh Griffiths breaks down how to finish the armbar when your opponent defends by holding their hands palm-to-palm.

First, secure a high grip on your collar to establish control. This grip is essential as it acts as a pivot point for the finish. Release any grip on the opponent's pants and instead grab the far tricep, pulling it towards your hip and bringing the opponent's elbow close to your chest.

By leaning your chest towards the opponent's far elbow, you effectively bring his elbows closer together, creating a fulcrum that helps to weaken and separate his wrists. Once you have compressed the opponent's arms together, you can move to the side to further disengage the hands.

As you roll back, maintain a hold on the opponent’s forearm. This grip prevents your opponent from spinning or repositioning, enhancing the overall control. From this position, you can transition into a shoulder lock if the opportunity presents itself or continue rolling to fully extend the arm and secure the armbar.
