BJJ black belt Josh Griffiths discusses a variation for securing a wrist lock when the far wrist is difficult to control, focusing instead on the near wrist.

Start by positioning your sternum over the opponent's knuckles of the near hand, using your body weight to apply a slight pressure inward. This initial step is crucial for setting up the rest of the technique. With your right hand, secure the opponent's far tricep and begin to pull it towards you, creating the necessary leverage and alignment for the wrist lock.

As you feel the wrist lock becoming viable, release your left hand from any prior grip and double up on the near wrist, intensifying the pull. This dual-handed grip enhances your control and the effectiveness of the submission. Lean into the lock to maximize pressure, focusing on bending the opponent's wrist to a critical angle where submission becomes inevitable.
