How to Finish the Closed Guard Armbar
In this technique from the "Braulio Estima Closed Guard Techniques" series, Braulio demonstrates how to finish an armbar. Starting from the controlled posture in closed guard, he continues applying pressure to maintain control over the opponent’s arm and posture. By placing a foot on the hips, Braulio manipulates the distance and tightens his grip on the opponent’s triceps, ensuring that the opponent’s arm is secured and cannot be pulled back in.
To counter any potential escape attempts, Braulio emphasizes the importance of controlling the opponent's head. He does this by pressing the opponent’s head towards his knee, which prevents the opponent from freeing their shoulder and thus escaping the arm lock. Braulio explains that controlling the head is crucial because it stops the shoulder from moving freely, which is essential for maintaining the arm lock.
For the finish, Braulio shifts to an Americana-style grip, twisting the arm to apply a shoulder lock if the opponent manages to posture up. He stresses the need to twist the opponent’s arm away from their body, making it difficult for them to use their shoulder to escape. This detailed control of both the head and the arm ensures that the armbar is tight and effective, leaving little room for the opponent to maneuver or escape.
This technique showcases Braulio’s strategic approach to Jiu Jitsu, focusing on control and precision to secure submissions from the closed guard.
